The 26th President of The Nigerian Society of Engineers

Citation on Engr. Kashim Abdul Ali, FNSE.
- In the Beginning:
On June 10, 1958, a son was born to the Family of Alhaji Abdullahi and Hajiya Maryam Ali, both of blessed memory, of Ofugo-Ankpa in Kogi State. This Son was latter named Kasim Abdul Ali.
- Education and Training:
The process of learning for Kashim Abdul Ali started at an early age with the tutorship of his late grandfather, a traditional ruler, whose memory he holds dear because of the valuable nuggets of wisdom which the grandfather impacted on his life. His formal training commenced in 1964 with primary education at the LEA Primary school, Ankpa. He then proceeded to Ochaja Secondary, Dekina in 1971, for his secondary education. In 1976, he enrolled in the Kaduna Polytechnic to study Civil Engineering and finally left in 1981 with a Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering.
He however, did not rest on his oars until he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri in 1988 cum laude.
- Career Life:
Engr. Kashim Ali has well over two decades of experience in Civil Engineering practice. He commenced his working career as an Engineer with the Benue State Government in 1982 during which he held various supervisory positions on several engineering projects namely:
- Planning/Progress Engineer responsible for the assessment and collation of Engineering Designs and Co-ordination of annual Road Traffic Census for Federal Roads within Benue state.
- Resident Supervision for the Construction of Estate Roads in the Commissioners’ Quarters in Markudi, Benue State.
- Resident Supervision for the Construction of internal Roads and all other civil structures for Benue Hotel in Markudi, Benue State.

- Direct labour construction of a 54m – length Reinforced Concrete Bridge at Ikpa-Mbatierev, on Wannune – Igbor Road in Benue State.
In 1992, he joined the service of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) as a Principal Engineer. His various assignments in which he distinguished himself included:
- Managing of the Public-Private Partnership Technical Committee Secretariat, and Special projects assigned by the Executive Secretary
- Planning, Engineering Design and Project Management of Rural Water Supply Schemes in the FCT
- Management of the Construction of the 5,000m3/h 2nd Unit Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant
- Chief Resident Engineer, Planning and Engineering Design of the Greater Kuje Town Permanent Water Supply Scheme
- Chief Resident Engineer, Planning and Engineering design of the Lower Usuma Dam – Bwari Water Pipeline including the booster station and a 12,500m3 capacity reinforced concrete reservoir.
Engr. Kahsim Abdul Ali, FNSE was appointed the Acting Director of the FCT Water Board in September 2005 and confirmed as Director a year latter in 2006. He again confirmed his Midas touch when under his leadership; the Water Board took a turn for the better in service delivery, improved revenue generation and staff enhancement. His primary agenda was to realign the Water Board with the reform agenda of the FCT Administration and therefore engender public confidence in the organization. His vision has rubbed on the Management and Staff of the Board and it has thus transformed it from a hitherto distressed organization to a viable and growing utility provider in the Nation’s Capital.
- Personal Life:
Amiable, humble but a stickler for perfection, Engr. Ali is consistently in pursuit of excellence. Those who work with him will attest that any assignment he gives always has a delivery date of “yesterday”. He is however generous with praises and commendation when a job is well done, but never ceases to drive his subordinates to outdo their yesterday’s best. What he demands from others he also gives in double portion. He can therefore be described as a relentless and hard worker. Engr. Ali’s personal motto may be described as “Give your best to humanity in all that you do”.
He is happily married to Hajiya Hadiza Ali and they are blessed with
four lovely children.
